LEVOCYN A
Levocetirizine hydrochloride (5 mg), Ambroxol Hydrochloride (60 mg)
Levocetirizine hydrochloride, an antihistamine, is a major metabolite of hydroxyzine, and non-sedating, selective histamine H1 receptor inverse agonist used in the treatment of allergies, hay fever, angioedema, and urticaria. The structural similarity of levocetirizine to hydroxyzine, and its derivation from piperazine, attribute similar adverse reactions and properties to other piperazine derivatives.
Ambroxol is indicated in “bronchopulmonary therapy with abnormal mucus secretion and impaired mucus transport. It promotes mucus clearance, facilitates expectoration, and reduces productive cough, allowing the patient to independently And breathe deeply.
Mechanism of Action:
Levocyn-A (Cetirizine / Ambroxol) treats allergies by blocking histamine receptors and breakdown down mucus. It is produced by combining antihistamines with a systemic mucolytic agent. Cetirizine is classified as a second-generation antihistamine. It works by selectively inhibiting H1 histamine receptors. By preventing histamine from acting on its receptors, this drug helps reduce symptoms caused by hay fever or other allergies (such as a runny nose and watery eyes). Ambroxol has secretolytic properties, and it works by reducing the viscosity (thickness) of mucus, allowing it to remove more from the body.
Pharmacokinetic Properties:
Recently the pharmacokinetics of ambroxol have been reviewed in detail in Cazan et al. Ambroxol has a bioavailability of 79% when given orally. It is metabolized in the liver by cytochrome P450 3A4 and has an elimination half-life of approximately 10 h of terminal 10, with a total clearance of 660 ml / min. Upon delivery of blood from the tissue, the highest concentration of ambroxol is found in the lungs; In human lung tissue, ambroxol has been found in 15- to 20-fold higher concentrations present in the blood. Furthermore, age and sex have not been shown to affect the pharmacokinetics of ambroxol to a clinically relevant extent, so dose adjustment is not indicated.
Drug-Drug interactions:
Increased INR and risk of epistaxis when taken together with warfarin.
Potentially fatal: CNS depressant and anticholinergics may potentiate CNT depressant cetirizine.
